CDA Launches 9km Service Road Project in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has formally initiated construction work on a new service road along the busy Islamabad Expressway, aiming to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve overall commuting flow in the federal capital. The project is part of CDA’s broader strategy to enhance road infrastructure and address the increasing transportation challenges caused by rapid urban expansion.

According to official reports, the planned service road will span approximately nine kilometers, beginning from the well-known Faizabad Interchange and extending to Gulberg Greens. The route will pass through several key surrounding areas, including Soan, Pindorian, Shakrial, Garden Town, Khanna, Kangal, Ghouri Town, and Koral, along with nearby localities that have witnessed substantial residential and commercial growth in recent years.

The primary objective of this initiative is to create a dedicated alternative route for local traffic. By diverting slow-moving and short-distance vehicles away from the main carriageway, CDA aims to ensure smoother flow for long-distance commuters and fast-moving traffic on the expressway. Officials believe that separating local and through traffic will not only reduce daily bottlenecks but also enhance road safety and decrease travel time for thousands of commuters who rely on the corridor every day.

The Islamabad Expressway serves as a critical artery connecting Islamabad with Rawalpindi and adjoining suburban areas. With the continuous development of housing societies and commercial hubs along the route, traffic volume has increased considerably, making infrastructure upgrades essential. The new service road is expected to provide relief to residents and businesses operating in the surrounding communities by improving accessibility and connectivity.

Following the completion of the first phase from Faizabad Interchange to Gulberg Greens, CDA has also announced plans to extend the service road further from Koral to Rawat. This future expansion will strengthen connectivity for rapidly developing residential and commercial zones along the expressway, supporting long-term urban growth.

The project reflects CDA’s ongoing commitment to modernizing Islamabad’s road network and facilitating safer, faster, and more efficient transportation for the public.
